WRITING IS THE VOICE OF IMAGINATION
In an interview for the “Alpha – Omega”, a creative writing journal, rmsmith was asked, “Why do you write?” Her answer was simple. “I write so that I can better understand and explore myself.” She explained how writing whether fictional, nonfictional, technical, or creative, gives her the opportunity to organize her thoughts and expand them. Writing forces her to focus. “It is the only thing I do where the whole world fades away and I become truly isolated. Some say that mediation does the same thing, but mediation, to me, means that I am trying to focus on something that clears my mind, but writing is about focusing on something until the intangible becomes tangible.”
She was asked if she found changing characters difficult, and her response was, “Changing characters is not difficult when you are creating them, changing characters when you writing a non-fictional piece is much more difficult as there is no way of truly knowing another’s thoughts or emotions. But that is life, every day we interact with others, every day we read, through their actions or inactions, their thoughts, emotions, and intentions, maybe we are not reading them correctly, but then that is why we must be as honest and open as possible when we do communicate.
rmsmith has spoken before countless new writers, encouraging them to listen to their own voice, to hear the untold stories. However, she has never been eager to publish her works. A leader to and among young writers, rmsmith prefers for her writing to remain her personal journey.
