EUREKA – EUREKA II If I had not signed up with Mal Robertson to deliver Eureka II from Hobart to Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays, and then fate robbed me of that journey - I would have missed a much larger journey INDEED and most probably becoming a 200T MCA commercially endorsed captain. Having missed the delivery of Eureka II, Mal Robertson invited me to come to Airlie Beach to have fun on Eureka drive her around in the Whitsunday Islands with Mattie and Glen. It took me almost a year, but I did that…well; I cannot say I did a lot of driving at all. After all Mattie and Glen are great skippers indeed! Eureka II was filled with backpackers, so there was plenty of work to do and I often kept myself so busy that I forgot about the driving part. But Mal would take me out on 007 to run late passengers out to yachts and I was having fun. After all, these are all really great guys. One day, Mal took over to Hammer, which had a few issues which needed to be resolved before it could go back into charter. He decided that it was good for me to practice on Hammer. Hammer is a really neat Maxi and I had never driven a boat that size. After driving her around and picking up moorings, I felt a little more comfortable with a larger yacht. When we brought her back alongside a rather interesting guy jumped onboard. He introduced himself as Adrian Platt. The man who inspired me to become a 200T commercially endorsed captain.
