snippets from art collectors

rmsmith has sold paintings all over the world.  She travels and meets a lot of different people.  A lot of rmsmith's paintings are in the art collections of people she has befriended.   The snippets below are from emails and traditional letters; they represent her art and friendships.

I’ve finally found a place for your paintings.  They’re hanging in my study.  They bring back such wonderful memories of our manic around the buoys yacht race last summer.  They are beautiful. I love them and will always treasure them. Thanks so much for getting them to me.  For such a small person, you fill up a lot of space and turn a lot of heads.  You are a really great artist, but the most indelible picture you painted is of yourself flying across the cockpit hanging on like a she-devil to our mainsheet! You’ve become a local legend! I have no doubt that wherever the winds of life take you, you will sail with confidence and continue to impress.

It has been our pleasure to get to know you.  WOW! What spirit you have. You cease to amaze.  You have been an immense support to us and helped us through some really difficult times.  Your absolutely gorgeous painting of white calla lilies will remind us that wherever you are in the world, your spirit is always close by.  We can’t thank you enough everything you’ve done and for being your beautiful self.  God Bless You Ruey!

Thanks for getting the painting to us.  It’s amazing.  We have hung it above our bed in the aft stateroom, but we will take it with us when we return to Hong Kong. You really are the most extraordinary woman.  Love means so many different things to different people, but for us love will always mean RUEY.   We hope that you enjoyed sailing with us as much as we enjoyed sailing with you.  You made the most of every moment.  George says that he will never see the bowsprit without you standing there looking out to sea or doing cartwheels.  We miss your laughter, helpfulness, and energy. Don’t be a stranger.

The painting arrived today.  Oh my GOD! I thought it was beautiful on the net, but in real life, it’s absolutely astounding. How did you manage to bring out all these colors!  When I look at this painting, I see your quick smile and hyper ways.  Your spirit and energy are so visible.  It reminds me of our days running around the all those silly islands, trying not to kill any backpackers.  Keep in touch dear Ruthie.  Our time together seemed way too short. You made the sun shine brighter; the breeze gentler; the rain fresher.  Sail safe and sail far.

I’ve hung your paintings in my office at Uni.  They cheer me up when I am in the middle of some tedious arbitration. They remind me to not take myself and work too seriously.  Your generosity and kindness are heartfelt.  The world needs a few more of you. Take up cloning as your next project.  You are an amazing woman Ruth Marie Smith.  You lift up others and make the world a better place.  Your bubbly personality has brought such sunshine into my life, even when mother nature said no, and I had to make those long tedious drives home. I am so greatful that Carmel recommended you to me.  You have made all the difference.  I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll do well in whatever you do and wherever you go.

Take care special friend

Ruey the paintings are gorgeous. I love them.  They make my living room.  I've hung them above the fireplace.  You're a wonderful friend.  I do not know if I would have had the courage to make the changes that I had made if I had not met you.  You are such an inspiration. You dream in a world  bigger than most of us live.   You live life to the fullest.  I miss not having you on the high side with me.

Thank you ever so much Ruth.  It has been a great honour to work alongside you.  You a brilliant lady with incredible talent.  You change lives by challenging and changing peoples perception. including that of your students.  You change how they translate the world.  We all have so much to learn from you. You are a treasure chest filled with so many surprises and delights.  You have changed my view of the world.  Thank you for being such a remarkable friend and colleague.
